Trains

Three major train providers serve Southern California: Metrolink, Metro Rail and Amtrak. Each operates a different type of train service:

  • Light Rail
    These trains run above-ground, sometimes on city streets. Light rail in Southern California runs throughout Los Angeles County and is operated by Metro Rail.
  • Subway
    Metro Rail runs the underground subway system in Los Angeles County, serving Downtown LA, the Mid-Wilshire area, Hollywood and North Hollywood.
  • Commuter Rail
    Metrolink runs commuter trains throughout Los Angeles, Orange, San Bernardino, Riverside and Ventura Counties.
  • Long Distance Rail
    Amtrak and Amtrak California run rail service throughout California and beyond.
